Angels at the window
Venice
Rachel has posted a very beautiful photograph by Alexey Titarenko of Venice.
god is there any place on earth more magical?
I was last there about 10 years ago for a tryst with an Italian architect - he showed me secret sculptures and held my hand as we walked in the October mist. No place does mist like Venice. and nowhere has more dark corners to surrender kisses to italian highwaymen….
Thinking about Venice makes me think about Truman Capote and Capote makes me think about New York and those heady days when life was all sex and beauty - I once was at the same disco in New York as Truman Capote, Kitty Carlile Hart….and another NY gossipy celeb whose name I have long forgotten ….(see? THIS is how myths are made)… Le Jardin on west 43rd Street was the disco and the year was 1975 and the dance was The Hustle cue Van McCoy…. and beautiful provocative Latin boys were dancing soooooooclose and spinning me around and reeling me back……Oh god…My friend Linda DeRosa had made me a dress which consisted of three silk “tourist” scarves sewn together with silk ribbon straps…and I could dance in impossible red high heel platform shoes….
Capote wrote beautiful words about Venice - “Venice is like eating an entire box of chocolate liqueurs in one go”
There is also a wonderful paragraph in Capote’s Music for Chameleons about the dowagers walking along the canals in Venice in January but as I do not have the book to hand I will post it another time but for now I will go see if I have any chocolates….
